April Ross

April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball players to have won medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix Klineman, playing for the first time in Tokyo's Olympics is hoping to secure her third gold medal. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic medal. At 39, this could be her final chance to accomplish this. Her confidence is high nevertheless. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that if the team plays consistently or well they can earn a gold. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa in 1982. Her family lived in the area along with her parents and younger sister. In addition to competing in various sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. When she was a student in the prep school she played indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. She stood out however during this game. The college bio says that she played outside of the hitter middle blocker and setter during her volleyball career in high school. Her efforts were recognized by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National Player of the Year. In 2000, she won an Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. While Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since 2017, the former was already a big-time athlete on the beach prior to their team. Actually Ross has won a number of significant tournaments during her time along with her two teammates. One of them is a volleyball legend. From 2007 to 2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy, who is the coach she is currently. Together with Kessy Ross, she won the World Championship in 2009 when she competed internationally. The duo eventually captured a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor took home gold overtaking them. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate as Maytreanor resigned. They both won beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross played for the USC Trojans in the college years following her graduation from in high school. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was remarkable. In 2000, as a freshman she fought her way to Pac-10 and NCAA All-American Freshman of Year awards and earned an All-American. Her Trojans also reached the Final Four. In her sophomore year, she suffered a tremendous personal setback but managed to be a second All-American. Over her final 2 seasons with the Trojans program, she guided them to a national title each year. In 2003-04, Ross was named the top female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in the US by the Honda Sports Award. Ross was an USC international relations major, was a star in volleyball. Margie Ross wasn't able to see her daughter's climb to beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. This meant that Ross is still close to her parent who died. Margie, on the beach and in daily life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
