She is the child of Harvey Welker, a Native American Father and Julie Welker, an African American Mother. Her mother works as a real-estate agent, while her father holds a degree in engineering. Walker completed her studies at Germantown Friends School situated within Philadelphia's Germantown district in 1994. In 1998, she earned a bachelor's of arts diploma in the field of education at Harvard College. Welker is in a relationship with John Hughes a well-known marketing director at Merck at Philadelphia and they have two children. They began an affair in 2014 when they began to date. John husband of hers has an age difference of four years compared to her. They were enjoying their relationship and they decided to stay in touch. On March 4th 2017 they tied the knot.
